Manzoor Hasan is a public policy reform specialist with nearly three decades of experience in capacity building and institutional strengthening aimed at strengthening governance in Bangladesh and globally. Mr. Hasan graduated from the London School of Economics & Political Science in 1979, and was called to the bar of England and Wales in 1985. Since being called, Mr. Hasan practiced in both England and Bangladesh for many years.
Mr. Hasan is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ), BRAC University. He was instrumental in establishing BIGD (former Institute of Governance Studies) in 2005, of which was the Founding Director. Previously he worked as the Deputy Executive Director of BRAC, the largest NGO in the world. He was also founding Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh, and was subsequently the Regional Director (Asia-Pacific) of Transparency International, Berlin, Germany.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II awarded the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) to Mr. Hasan in 2003 for his promotion of transparency in Bangladesh. Mr. Hasan currently serves as the chairperson for the Asia Justice Coalition (AJC). He is on the board of ActionAid International. He previously chaired the UN Convention Against Corruption Coalition.
Mr. Hasan is also a published author, having written multiple reports and articles, published across various platforms. His book titled, “The Real Politics of Bangladesh – The Inside Story of Local Power Brokers”, till date remains one of the best descriptions of Bangladesh’s informal political scape.
