Centre for Peace and Justice, BRAC University (CPJ) and The Asia Coalition (AJC) jointly organized a day-long event “WIJA Bangladesh: Exploring Project Ideas” on Wednesday, 24th April 2024 at a Dhaka hotel. This workshop was launched by AJC’s initiative ‘Women Leaders in International Justice & Accountability’ with an aim to increase avenues to international justice and accountability through women-centred and women-led legal interventions.
On November 2023, AJC and CPJ jointly held 2-day systems mapping exercise in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to identify dynamics preventing access to justice and accountability in three key legal areas:1) rights for refugees, other displaced persons, and minorities; 2) mechanisms related to international criminal justice; and 3) restorative or transitional justice. This “WIJA Bangladesh: Exploring Project Ideas” event was organized to bring all the participants who were involved in the systems mapping exercise to continue their involvement in the project development process that will further develop the project ideas to be implemented in Bangladesh.
15 emerging women practitioners in legal scholarship, practice, policy, and research participated in the workshop. The workshop was facilitated by Antara Tasmeen, Capacity Building Lead, CPJ Sangeetha Yogendran, Project Manager, AJC and Aakash Chandran Legal Advocacy & Communications Manager, AJC. The workshop commenced with the welcome remarks and inauguration by Sangeetha Yogendran and Aakash Chandran. Jannatul Ferdous Jannat, AJC Researcher also shared a presentation on Locating the Gaps – Presentation on Background Research with the participants.

The participants also had a strong understanding of the dynamics identified during the exercises. Participants expressed-they had a wonderful experience and being in a room with people who wants to uphold justice in whatever manner gives them hope.
