Since July 2018, the Centre for Peace and Justice, Brac University (CPJ, BracU) has been implementing a flagship programme with UN Women titled ‘Empowered Women Peaceful Communities’ at 4 universities in Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Rangpur. CPJ has facilitated the establishment of 4 Peace Cafés as an innovative and pioneering initiative to promote peace and social cohesion through nurturing and mentoring female-student-led civic engagement and social entrepreneurship activities.

In 2019 CPJ, BracU facilitated the establishment of two Women Peace Cafés as the hub of civic engagement for students and experiential learning, at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), and Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU), Mymensingh. In 2021 CPJ initiated the establishment process of Peace Cafés at the University of Dhaka and Brac University.

Recently, on the occasion of International Day of Peace 2022, another new Peace Café Initiative was replicated at the Asian University for Women (AUW) in Chittagong. The Peace Café envisions empowering young students to promote a just, peaceful, and inclusive society where every human being will be treated with equal dignity and rights.

The work of the Peace Café is more important than ever. Refugees from many parts of the world and the climate change crisis are the latest challenges to world peace and need global action. The new generation must take the lead.
Peace Café is one of the vehicles through which a new social movement might take place. We have a dream to spread Peace Café not just in the country but all over South Asia. The young men and women will take this forward so that Bangladesh can take a lead in something visionary for the rest of the world.
The Peace Café is a means of collaboration of the universities across Bangladesh; which can also go international. Peace Cafe attracts people who are interested in the issues of social justice and also those who want to get engaged in social activities for achieving gender equality.
Peace Café as a hub for various civic engagements for students and also engage in experiential learning on relevant societal issues. It also supported female students to nurture innovative business ideas for the promotion of women empowerment, which will result in peace, cohesion and prosperity of the society at large.
