Since July 2018, the Centre for Peace and Justice, Brac University (CPJ, BracU) has been implementing a flagship programme with UN Women titled ‘Empowered Women Peaceful Communities’ at 4 universities in Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Rangpur. CPJ has facilitated the establishment of 4 Peace Cafés as an innovative and pioneering initiative to promote peace and social cohesion through nurturing and mentoring female-student-led civic engagement and social entrepreneurship activities.
In 2019 CPJ, BracU facilitated the establishment of two Women Peace Cafés as the hub of civic engagement for students and experiential learning, at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), and Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU), Mymensingh. In 2021 CPJ initiated the establishment process of Peace Cafés at the University of Dhaka and Brac University.
Recently, on the occasion of International Day of Peace 2022, another new Peace Café Initiative was replicated at the Asian University for Women (AUW) in Chittagong. The Peace Café envisions empowering young students to promote a just, peaceful, and inclusive society where every human being will be treated with equal dignity and rights.
